The Johns Creek Lady Gladiators continued their dominant season Thursday night, overpowering Gainesville 16-0 on the road behind a powerful offensive performance and a no-hit effort in the circle. The victory improved Johns Creek's record to 14-2 as the team moves closer to setting a new program record for wins in a single season.
The Lady Gladiators' offense erupted for 13 hits and wasted little time getting started. Zelda Arthur jump-started the attack by leading off the game with a double, setting the tone for a productive night at the plate.
Johns Creek received multiple-hit performances from Allie Lafon, Uma Pittman, Addie Grindle, Avery Huffman, and Claire Dennis. Reese Stiltner and Isla Wells also contributed hits as the Gladiators consistently pressured Gainesville's defense throughout the contest.
The biggest swing of the night came in the second inning when Lafon launched a two-run home run, helping Johns Creek pull away early and continue building its advantage. The Lady Gladiators plated runs throughout the game, turning the match-up into a runaway victory.
While the offense stole headlines, Pittman was equally dominant in the circle. The sophomore threw a no-hitter, striking out five batters and allowing only two walks. Pittman kept the Red Elephants off balance all game and never allowed Gainesville to mount a serious threat.
With the 16-0 win, Johns Creek improves to 14-2 on the season and remains on the verge of establishing a new single-season wins record for the softball program.
The Lady Gladiators will look to keep their momentum rolling when they travel to Milton next Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch against the Eagles.
