The Johns Creek Gladiators JV football team battled hard against Alpharetta in a defensive showdown that was much closer than the final score indicated. Despite a strong start and an outstanding defensive effort, the Gladiators fell 18-7.
Johns Creek came out firing early in the first quarter. Freshman quarterback Owen Phillips connected with fellow freshman Mason Smith on a long touchdown pass to cap an impressive drive and give the Gladiators an early 7-0 lead.
The Gladiator defense answered the challenge all night long, limiting Alpharetta to just six offensive points each half. Freshman outside linebacker Danniel Solie led the way with a dominant performance, recording multiple tackles for loss and a strip sack while consistently disrupting the Raiders' offense. The defense played physical, disciplined football and kept Johns Creek in control for much of the game.
The second half turned into a tough back-and-forth battle with both teams struggling to move the ball consistently. The game swung late in the third quarter when Alpharetta blocked a Johns Creek punt and returned it for a touchdown, taking the lead and seizing momentum.
Despite continuing to fight through the final whistle, the Gladiators were unable to overcome the special teams setback as Alpharetta pulled away for the 18-7 victory.
