JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — A defensive battle in the first half quickly unraveled for Johns Creek on Friday night, as the visiting Mountain View Bears pulled away in the second half to hand the Gladiators a 36-2 home defeat.
The night opened in unusual fashion, with both defenses imposing their will early. Each side forced a safety in a defensive-heavy opening stint, keeping the score deadlocked at 2-2. Just as Johns Creek looked ready to head into the locker room level, Mountain View landed a crucial blow, punching in a touchdown with just two seconds left on the second-quarter clock to take a 9-2 advantage at halftime.
Mountain View carried that late momentum directly into the second half. Taking full advantage of several Gladiator turnovers, the Bears’ defense locked down the field, shutting out Johns Creek the rest of the way and unanswered points to close out the 36-2 decision.
Despite the tough final score, the Gladiators got strong performances across their defensive unit:
Owen Crawford led the effort with 8 tackles.
John Michael Sengbusch, Walker Edmondson, and Elijah Antoine anchored the front line with 7 tackles apiece.
With the loss, Johns Creek falls to 1-2 on the season. The Gladiators will look to wipe the slate clean and regroup quickly as they host cross-town rival Chattahoochee High School this Friday night.
