The Johns Creek Lady Gladiators showed resilience and determination Thursday night, holding off a late comeback attempt by the Riverwood Raiders to secure a hard-fought 7-5 victory. The win improves Johns Creek to 3-1 in region play and 15-3 overall, matching the program record for wins in a season.
Leading the way was Uma Pittman, who delivered an outstanding all-around performance. In the circle, Pittman tossed a complete game, striking out nine batters while allowing just two walks. At the plate, she contributed two hits and drove in three runs, providing a major spark for the Gladiator offense.
Zelda Arthur set the tone offensively by reaching base in all three of her plate appearances. Arthur collected two hits, swiped two bases, and consistently put pressure on the Raider defense throughout the evening.
Johns Creek built a five-run advantage before Riverwood mounted a rally to make things interesting late in the game. The Gladiators responded with timely plays when they mattered most. Addie Grindle delivered a clutch RBI hit, while Allie Lafon sparked the offense with an RBI triple off the right-field fence. Collins Freret also came through in a crucial moment, stealing a key base that helped seal the victory for Johns Creek.
The win marks the Lady Gladiators' 15th of the season, tying the program's all-time record for victories. Johns Creek will have an opportunity to make history and set a new program mark when they travel to Lanier High School next Tuesday.
