CALHOUN, Ga. — Facing a five-run deficit, the Johns Creek Gladiators refused to fold.
After falling behind 5-0, Johns Creek mounted a determined comeback and scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a 7-5 victory over Coahulla Creek at the Lady Jackets Tournament on Friday in Calhoun.
The Gladiators chipped away at the lead throughout the game before delivering the decisive rally in the sixth. The five-run outburst turned a close contest into another win for a Johns Creek team that continues to impress early in the season.
Leading the offensive charge was Reese Stiltner, who collected two hits and drove in two runs. Allie Lafon also recorded two hits for the Gladiators, while Kennedy Brewer, Uma Pittman, and Sydney Laun each added a hit.
Johns Creek's comeback was aided by strong execution of the small game. Timely sacrifice bunts from Addie Grindle, Ella Grindle, and Hailey Brown helped advance runners and create key scoring opportunities during the rally.
The Gladiators also received solid work in the circle. Hailey Brown drew the starting assignment, Swara Khatri provided two innings of relief, and Uma Pittman shut the door to secure the victory.
Defensively, Johns Creek was flawless. The Gladiators committed no errors, a key factor in overcoming the early deficit and preserving the win.
With the victory, Johns Creek improves to 3-0 on the season. The Gladiators will continue tournament play on Saturday when they face Gilmer High School at 10 a.m. in Calhoun.
