Russell Gray - Assistant AD, Coaching Mentor
Johns Creek High School is proud to recognize Russell Gray as the August Coach of the Month for his exceptional leadership, tireless work ethic, and unwavering commitment to the success of Gladiator students, coaches, and athletes.
As the school's Assistant Athletic Director, Coach Gray has become an indispensable member of the Johns Creek community. Often described as a "Swiss Army knife" for the athletic department, he consistently goes above and beyond to support programs across the school. Whether assisting coaches, mentoring student-athletes, organizing events, or solving challenges behind the scenes, Coach Gray is always willing to step in wherever he is needed.
One of his most impactful contributions has been leading the Johns Creek Coaching Mentor Program over the past two years. Through this initiative, Coach Gray has helped develop and support coaches throughout the department, strengthening the culture of excellence that defines Johns Creek Athletics. His dedication to helping others grow and succeed can be seen daily in his interactions with students, staff, and the broader school community.
Principal Chris Shearer praised Coach Gray's commitment to putting students first:
"Congratulations to Coach Gray on this well-deserved honor! Coach Gray is one of the best in the business when it comes to putting students and student-athletes first. His unwavering commitment to their success, both on and off the field, sets him apart as an exceptional leader and mentor. He is always focused on what is best for Johns Creek and continually challenges those around him to strive for excellence. Congratulations Coach!"
Assistant Principal Val Moyer highlighted Coach Gray's tremendous impact on the school community:
"A huge shout out to Russell Gray! Russell is one of those people who quietly does so much behind the scenes to keep everything moving. As our Assistant AD, he supports and mentors our coaches, steps in wherever he is needed, and somehow manages all the little things and big things that come with athletics. His leadership, reliability, and willingness to help never go unnoticed. We are incredibly grateful for everything Russell does for our coaches, our athletes, and JCHS! Love that he is here and part of our Creek family."
His impact extends far beyond athletics. As a teacher, mentor, and leader, Coach Gray has earned the
admiration and respect of colleagues throughout the building.
Steve Sweigart, Career Education Department Chair, shared:
"Coach Gray is a tremendous asset to the Johns Creek community. As a teacher, mentor, and leader, Coach Gray exemplifies what it means to be a Gladiator. He is CREED! Cannot say enough great things about Coach Gray. Love the guy!"
Athletic Director Kirk Call also highlighted Coach Gray's dedication and selfless service to the school community:
"Coach Gray's work ethic is second to none. He approaches every task with a servant-leader mindset and is always willing to do whatever it takes to help our students, coaches, and athletic programs succeed. Whether it's leading initiatives, mentoring coaches, supporting game-day operations, or simply helping someone solve a problem, Russell consistently gives his time and energy without seeking recognition. His commitment to Johns Creek High School and our community is unmatched, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him serving our students and staff every day."
Coach Gray's influence can be measured not only by the countless hours he invests in the school, but also by the relationships he builds and the positive culture he helps create. His dedication to excellence, service, and mentorship makes him a model Gladiator and a deserving recipient of this honor.
