The Johns Creek Gladiators JV football team closed out their season with a hard-fought 21-13 victory over North Springs, finishing with a 4-3 record in a year defined by resilience, toughness, and competitive football. With all but two games decided by a single score, this group continued to battle until the very end and showed why the future is bright for Johns Creek football.
The game started with excitement on both sides as each offense threw an early interception. Sophomore Seth Reames came up with the Gladiators' first takeaway, setting the tone for another strong defensive performance.
After the early turnover exchange, the Johns Creek offense found its rhythm. Led up front by the outstanding play of freshman offensive lineman Brennan Alesi, the Gladiators controlled the line of scrimmage and built momentum throughout the first half. Taking advantage of excellent field position, Johns Creek put together a strong opening two quarters and built a 21-0 halftime lead.
One of the biggest plays of the night came when freshman Jordan Okooboh intercepted a pass and returned it all the way to the 1-yard line. On the very next play, freshman running back Stephen Cruz powered into the end zone, extending the Gladiator lead and energizing the sideline.
North Springs refused to go away, mounting a second-half comeback and eventually cutting the deficit to 21-13. With less than two minutes remaining, North Springs forced a turnover and drove deep into Gladiator territory, threatening to complete the comeback.
However, with just three seconds remaining, freshman Dylan Phillips came up with the game-sealing interception in the red zone, ending North Springs' final drive and securing the victory for Johns Creek.
The Gladiators finish the season at 4-3, with five of their seven games decided by a single possession. This team showed tremendous resilience throughout the season, overcoming adversity and competing in close games week after week. The growth, toughness, and commitment displayed throughout the year have laid a strong foundation for the future, and the future is bright for Johns Creek football.
