JOHNS CREEK, Ga. (Oct. 1) – The Johns Creek Lady Gladiators battled hard in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel against the Lanier Longhorns on Thursday night at Johns Creek High School, but came up just short in a 2-0 loss.
Sophomore pitcher Uma Pittman delivered an outstanding performance in the circle, keeping the powerful Lanier lineup in check throughout the game. Pittman struck out nine Longhorn hitters while allowing just six hits and two runs, giving the Lady Gladiators every opportunity to compete in a low-scoring affair.
Despite the strong pitching effort, Johns Creek was unable to generate enough offense to push runs across the plate. The Lady Gladiators collected four hits on the evening, with Zelda Arthur and Claire Dennis accounting for all of them. Arthur finished with two hits, while Dennis added two hits of her own and reached base three times to lead the offensive effort.
The game remained close from start to finish as both teams relied on strong pitching and defense. Johns Creek fought hard throughout the contest, but Lanier was able to capitalize on its opportunities and narrowly edge the Lady Gladiators by a final score of 2-0.
The Lady Gladiators will look to bounce back on Monday when they travel to Forsyth Central for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
